Program Overview

Welcome to The Owlet Academy: a part-time preschool for kids 2–5 years old, led by our wonderful kindergarten prep teacher, Ms. Gracie.

Rooted in social-emotional, physical, cognitive, and language development, our program gently prepares young learners for their next step—kindergarten and beyond.

Tucked inside Owl & Friends, Honesdale’s Montessori-inspired hub for growth and play, The Owlet Academy offers an intentionally small group setting where little ones can confidently spread their wings.

Curriculum and Philosophy

At The Owlet Academy, our curriculum is play-based and nurturing, designed to support the whole child. Through hands-on activities, children build social-emotional skills, strengthen fine and gross motor development, and explore early concepts in math, literacy, and language. Our goal is to foster confidence, independence, and a joyful foundation for lifelong learning.

Social and emotional:

Children will learn to follow class rules and routines, respond to simple two-step directions, and build essential self-help skills that foster independence. The program also supports healthy peer interactions and emotional regulation, while gently encouraging confidence in separating from caregivers—laying a strong foundation for school readiness.

Physical:

Our program supports both fine and gross motor development through hands-on, engaging activities. Children will strengthen fine motor skills by using art materials, grasping writing tools, working with Play-Doh, and practicing scissor use. Gross motor growth is encouraged through balancing and coordination exercises, as well as music and movement activities that promote body awareness and physical confidence.

Cognitive:

Students will practice identifying and sorting colors and shapes, counting, and recognizing numbers. They'll also create number sets and begin exploring simple patterns, laying the groundwork for early math understanding in a fun and engaging way.

Language:

We build early literacy skills through interactive, hands-on learning. Children will explore positional phrases and begin identifying letters. They'll also be introduced to phonics, while practicing name recognition, spelling, and writing to build confidence and foundational reading readiness.

Meet Ms. Gracie

Hello! My name is Gracie Mountain, and I’m thrilled to be part of Owlet Academy. I’ve worked in early childhood education since 2018—starting in infant and toddler rooms, later leading a preschool classroom for 3-year-olds. I hold an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and recently became a proud mom. I’m excited to bring my heart and experience back into the classroom!
